The structure is composed of a cube, 47.5 metres (156 ft) on each side, capped by a dome 44 m (144 ft) in external diameter. "Eight intersecting arches created by two rotated squares that create interlocking pendentives" support the dome. At each of the four corners of the cube, is a dome-capped octagonal tower seven stories high with a staircase inside. The upper floor of each opens on to a round gallery which surrounds the dome. Inside the mausoleum hall, is a square podium with steps on each side.
The Gol Gumbaz is the most famous historical place in Bijapur and it is the tomb of Muhammed Adil Shah (ruled 1627-1657). It is the largest dome ever built in India,.A particular attraction in this monument is the central chamber, where every sound is echoed seven times. Another attraction at the Gol Gumbaz is the Whispering Gallery, where even minute sounds can be heard clearly 37 metres away. Gol Gumbaz complex includes a mosque, a Naqqar Khana (a hall for the trumpeters) (Now it is used as museum) and the ruins of guest houses.
Main Atrraction : The Gol Gumbaz is famous for its Whispering Gallery , even the softest whispers made at one side can be heard at the other side very clearly of the Dome and also the unique style of its architecture is also the major source of attraction to the crowd .
Amazing Fact : The Gol Gumbaz was not listed under Seven wonders of the world because it is an incomplete structure as the Sultan Muhammed Adil Shah died before its completion.
