Qutb Minar is 73 meter tall tower and it is made out of Red sand stone and Marble , its Diameter is 15 meter at the base and the diameter is tapering towards the top and the diameter of the tip is just 2.5 meter.
The tower has five storeys and the fourth and fifth storeys are made out of mixture of marble and red sandstone and inside the tower , there is a circular staircase with 379 steps leading to the top of the tower. The Minar is made of bricks covered with Iron carvings and verses from the Qur'an. The Minar comprises several superposed flanged and cylindrical shafts, separated by balconies carrying Muqarnas corbels.
The construction of Qutb Minar was initiated by the emperor Qutb al-Din Aibak in 12th century but it was not completed then , later Qutb al-Din Aibak;s successor Iltutmish completed the structure by adding three more storeys to the tower.
It is believed that Qutb Minar is connected to the historical monuments that are present at its surroundings, Iron Pillar of Delhi, Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, Alai Darwaza, the Tomb of Iltutmish, Alai Minar, Ala-ud-din's Madrasa and Tomb, and the Tomb of Imam Zamin these monuments along with Qutb Minar are popularly called the "Qutb Complex , Qutb Minar being the world's tallest monument made out of bricks has been a major tourist destinations of Delhi .
Amazing Faacts :
1.Bollywood actor and director Dev Anand wanted to shoot the song "Dil Ka Bhanwar Kare Pukar" from his movie Tere Ghar Ke Samne inside the Minar. but, the cameras were too big at that time to fit inside the tower, for this reason the song was shot inside a replica of the tower instead.
2. Qutb Minar being 240 feet tall is the tallest historical monument in the world that is made of bricks.

Qutb Minar is open for visitors on all days between 7 AM to 5PM
Entry fee : Rs. 30 for Indians and Rs. 500 for foreigners.
